I've been spending a lot of time face to face with this collection and I have seen a lot of weird stuff. None weirder than the work of Denslow. Most of his books actually have a content warning because the man worked for some strange people with very outdated ideas. You'll need to register to check it out and I strongly advise parental discretion but take a peek at "Around the World in a Berry Wagon", "Denslow's Night Before Christmas", or "5 Little Pigs".

Around the World in a Berry Wagon

Denslows Night Before Christmas

Five Little Pigs

Personally, I love the images even if the pigs seriously creep me out.

Looking at Denslow's work makes me wonder if people living in the late nineteenth century appreciated the macabre and ironic as much as we seem to in 2020. There is something truly creepy about the way Denslow anthropomorphized the creatures in his works.

The use of color is really impressive, especially when you consider that they didn't have Inkjet printers back then.

Go ahead and check them out if you have time and then send us a message on Facebook to let us know what you think.
